You hit a bump and fell down in the dirt
and I can see it hurt by the look on your face.
Still I see you stand up and brush off that dust,
like you know you must, to get back in the game.
And I see you walk back to the dugout,
and pull your hat off and throw it down.
And I don’t know how I’m ever gonna tell you
that in my ears, even your pop-flies
make the sweetest sound

and in my eyes, in my eyes
you knocked that ball halfway to the sun.
and in my mind, in my mind
all the bases were loaded and the runners were comin’ home.
and I’m so proud of you for every step you’ve taken,
for the million invisible things you’ve done.
you’re my, you’re my home run.

You meet the toughies and bullies out on the yard
and I know it’s hard, sometimes, to just walk away.
But I know you’ve learned not to let the words burn,
as you turn, knowin’ you’re okay.
And I know how tough it is to strike out
ah, when that pitch comes flyin’ past.
And there’s no way I can explain
that, in my heart, wanna make this last,
you’re growin’ up so fast.

and in my eyes, in my eyes
you knocked that ball halfway to the sun.
and in my mind, in my mind
all the bases were loaded and the runners were comin’ home.
and I’m so proud of you for every step you’ve taken,
for the million invisible things you’ve done.
oh, you’re my, you’re my home run.

and you hit that ball again, it was a double,
and you slid into second base.
and I think I saw the biggest smile I’ve seen
light up your face.

and in my eyes, in my eyes
you knocked that ball halfway to the sun.
and in my mind, oh my mind
all the bases were loaded and the runners were comin’ home.
and I’m so proud of you for every step you’ve taken,
for the million invisible things you’ve done.
you’re my, you’re my home run.
you’re my, you’re my home run.
